My Philosophy

Over the last few years, I have watched as a shift has taken place in our schools. A majority of the shift I see, has taken place in our kindergarten classrooms. Much of the curriculum that is now being taught in kindergarten is what used to be taught in first grade. The problem with this shift is that many children are coming ill prepared to kindergarten to meet these extra demands.

I am a visual person, so if I could, let me try to give you a visual image. I see preschool as the foundation of a child's educational career. As the curriculum of kindergarten has progressively gotten heavier our preschool foundation is beginning to crack. An extra layer is needed to help support the weight of the new demands. I think that two years of preschool will help strengthen that foundation for our children. A first year of traditional preschool is needed to help our children with social skills and a basic understanding of letters and numbers etc. The second year of preschool I propose, should be a kindergarten preparedness school where the focus is on ensuring that our children have the extra skill sets that they need to be successful in kindergarten.

My goal at A Little White House Kindergarten Preparedness Preschool is to help your child be better equipped academically for kindergarten and to increase the strength in your child's educational foundation.

Curriculum

The curriculum at A Little White House has been created using the "Kindergarten Readiness Activities" list given to students when registering for kindergarten. Much of the curriculum will focus on reading readiness skills and phonological awareness.

I know that learning can and should be fun. My program is activity and game based and your child will be surprised to know that all the fun and games are actually helping them to learn and grow.

About Me

My name is Lisa-Marie Jensen. I am the mother of three and have been married to my husband for 9 years. I originally grew up in Boise, Idaho but have been in Rexburg for 13 years now and lovingly call it home.

I hold an Idaho Teaching Certificate as well as a K-12 Special Education Degree. Before making the choice to be a stay at home mom, I taught fourth grade, 1st grade, and high school special education. I LOVE being a mom, but miss teaching in a classroom. I truly love to teach. I love the outlet for my creativity and the opportunity to help others grow that it presents.

I love gardening, exercising, reading, volunteering for Relay for Life, being silly and teaching.

Our home (THE Little White House) was built by my husband's great grandfather, in the late 1800's. It is a treasure in our family. It may be LITTLE, but it is full of joy and love. I hope that when your child comes to preschool in my home, they will feel that joy and love and will gain an excitement for learning. I debated about whether or not to teach preschool in my home, due to it's lack of extra room and finally decided that it doesn't take a lot of space to learn and grow. It takes enthusiasm and a love of knowledge and I feel that I have both.

I hope to share some of that love of life and learning with your child!
